Last Saturday, I was flying KOA-LAX-DFW.
I stood by for an earlier flight LAX-DFW. I wasn't displaced, since my reserved flight was listed to leave on time. There were about 85 people on the standby list when I arrived at the gate; my name appeared at number 3 and I was one of about 5 standbys to get on the flight. I don't know if the other 85 people were displaced or not, but given the number I assume some of them were. I am gold. I checked in about 18 hours before the departure time of of the LAX-DFW flight that I got on to.
So I don't know what sets the priority but my experience hints that I jumped ahead of many displaced travelers in this case. Perhaps the system somehow thought that I was displaced when I wasn't...
