It can be. I've enjoyed my time there, but that was before I was an employee of Starwood. A former employer had a farm in CT near Scotland. Being centrally-located, it was an easy jump to any part of the state...even some outside it (RI, MA, NY).

Not sure that helps you with your choice of hotels, but I wouldn't let it discourage me from visiting an otherwise very nice New England state.
