There's pretty much an hourly train service from Tarbes to Pau, if you need to go there: it takes an hour. The SNCF are pretty good at allowing bikes on trains, so you could quite easily get to a rental agency in Pau.
But yes, a lot of things close round there on Sundays. Even in Paris, there's not much open...
Yes, I checked the train schedule, and, as you said, quite a few! But it's not that long a ride from Tarbes to Pau...
Seems strange that they have no public transit whatsoever from Pau to their airport, other than a shuttle that runs twice/day (sometimes just once)
only in one direction (airport to Pau). Weird. Taxis must do well in Pau!
