Jet lag concerns with a 1 year old-going over sees: need advice/ideas.

Our 1 year old girl is pretty easy going and rather fun to be around, and she's even been overseas to see family in Holland when she was just 6 months old with mommy on a direct flight. Sleep patterns were all messed up the whole time, but hey, at that age, they kinda are for everyone anyway. Mommy has the whole family there to help out anyway.

This time Daddy is going too, and we are sadly connecting thru the dreaded Heathrow on the way to AMS.

We leave BOS on July 17 in the eve, so it will be bed time and our baby will sleep on Daddy's shoulder for most of the ride. But when we get to LHR, it will be their 630am and our 1 something in the morning. We finally get to AMS at their 11am and it's a 6hr ahead time dif.

Currently, we have been on a really nice roll, as our little child can sleep thru the entire night--I mean 7 or 8pm all the way to like 6 in the morning! woo hoo!

(all you single people and elderly persons can laugh now as you probably get up at like 10)

Anyway, my concern is this:

Are there any tips, tricks, ideas, advices, etc that people here suggest as to how to best overcome and adjust to jet lag, and what about with a 1 year old? (that is the real concern and the main question of this thread)...

I heard drinking OJ is good for adults, and ok, maybe I can forego the movie on the flight and take some cat naps, but when we get there, we have another 1.25hr drive to family's home and while they'll have a crib set up, I cannot be certain if the child will sleep but we sure will want to. Fam can take care of things too but what do people suggest for the first 1-3 days of adjustment some people may need?

thanks!
MM

PS maybe there have been traveling with baby threads before but I could not find one that matched unless I am blind, and at least we know a 1 year old's actions can still not make anyone accuse anything she may do on the plane a result of bad parenting. (We are good parents, BTW)
