TAM-ATC/Overbooking Delays in Brazil?

After several delays last northern winter in GRU due to Brazilian Air Traffic Control labor slowdowns (as well as TAM overbooking), I have been bypassing the Brazilian domestic transfer by flying to GIG (my final destination) nonstop via MIA or ATL without much incident. I'm flying NYC-GIG next week, and as I'm finding it hard to get a seat on one of the US non-stops to GIG, and I'm considering trying the TAM flight again via GRU. All things being equal, I actually prefer TAM by a wide margin, but I'm a bit worried about the ATC and overbooking situation. My impression is that both have been rectified, and that ATC and overbooking delays are no longer usual. Does anybody have first hand experience recently, and able to tell me if I should expect delays as was the case earlier this year?
