When I flew through LAX last Saturday they had cancelled the earlier flights in advance - presumably because they had better odds of being able to rebook pax off those than off the last flight of the day.
I'm talking about the rolling cancellations which seem to be the majority of the cancellations. The pre-emptive ones seem to be in the minority in total numbers, but they can also be the most visible (i.e. last week's A330 substitution dance).
