Actually, I think you should wear shorts and a sweater or jeans and a T-shirt. That way, at most, half your body will be too hot and half will be too cold, so it should be quite comfortable on average.

IIRC from previous posts, the OP hales from the SFO area. If he's man enough to wear shorts enroute, I say more power to him.
