This is an award ticket in peak season? How far out did you book it? If you want to use your miles you need to have some flexibility. I did SFO-JFK once and had to route via MIA to get a seat. There weren't any award seats on the nonstop. If you're not happy with the routing, why not just buy a ticket and get the routing you want?

Have you researched what carriers are going to have better availability for award travel on this route?
