Get a good suitcase that has a garment sleeve like this Briggs&Riley.

Use Eagle Creek packing folders or something similar for shirts. My drycleaner returns jackets with tissue paper in the sleeves. Save these and put them in when you pack the jackets, cause even crushing them will give shape and support to the jacket and help prevent wrinkles.
I see relatively few people carrying those soft floppy suiters these days and if you have to check one then why bother, the suit will be crushed.
