business travel with a carry-on & laptop case
Hello all. I know I'm asking FAQs but I haven't found a relevant thread here, which means I'm probably not using the right keywords.
I've done almost no travel post-9/11, and in the years before that I was able to weasel out of almost all business travel. But I expect my next job to involve some business travel. I am considering purchase of a wheeled carry-on bag, one I've seen in person that looked OK is the Victorinox Medium Standard Traveler. One thing I liked about that particular unit is the combination of top and side handles, rolling system, and shoulder straps. It looks like it would be useful for business and vacations.
Aside from the choice of carry-on model, the first mental hurdle for me is handling carriage of a suit and other work togs. Somewhere in my house I have a Patagonia one-suiter that would be fine for overnight but not a week-long trip. In one thread here somebody mentioned that suits get less wrinkled from being worn than from being packed, but my concern there is the less than stellar airplane and airport cleanliness, not to mention my ability to get chili & spaghetti sauce on everything. I figure I can wear some low-budget slacks and a blazer onboard, but how do you guys pack suits & dress shirts in a typical carry-on? In the typical 22" carry-on, how much can you jam in?
I Googled the web but didn't find much, other than painfully detailed packing lists for vacationers headed to Europe. I also figured there would be a "Business Travel For Dummies" type book on Amazon but no luck there, either. Any useful links would be most helpful.
