I don't think the reputed 2 showers at SFO IFL have ever been operational. I guess UA wants to bat 1,000 on having no showers anywhere in the USA, aside from Arrivals Lounges.
It's really a shame you have to use the RCC and/or IFL at SFO if you're flying intercontinental *A , except SQ. Unless the SQ lounge just happens to be open and amenable when you're there.
I've actually taken a shower in the SFO IFL, and it was quite nice, (as were the attendants in the lounge...). I do agree, though--the SQ lounge is hands down better than the IFL in all respects, if they let you in, which has been getting increasingly harder for UA pax.
