As others have mentioned, call ASAP to alert DL you will have a pet. They allow two in Y and one in F per flight, so you need to reserve your space now. There is a $50 fee for carry-on one direction; also the carrier you use must be able to fit under the seat in front of you.
If I am not mistaken the $50 one way fee is for domestic flights. I would double check the international charge.
