IMHO this not a question of entitlement at all - 8h+ on a TATL flight without TV style entertainment is simply not funny. OK, you can argue that I could read a book, magazines or newspapers, and often enough I actually do that as the entertainment has little of interest to offer but I definitely want to choose for myself.

Even though a J ticket is not exactly cheap, I personally would not expect monetary compensation for this, I expect them to have a system in good working order - failing that they should really have a stack of DVD players plus library available to cover this situation (should be a few of them around now that they are finally phasing out the old 763 configuration)
