You will go through customs/immigration on the way back in YUL at a "preclearance" facility, then weh you arrive back at ORD, you arrive as a domestic, not international. All flights going to the US from a lot of the major airports in Canada have this facility, and makes connecting in the US far nicer...just be prepared. I don't know about YUL, but YYC can have some long lines at the Customs/Immigration desks (they're between checkin and security).
