Which Marriott? The Hotel or the Executive Apartments. My guess is that it is the Executive Apartments. Either way the answer may be found at marriott.com at this link.

If it is the Executive Apartments then your buddy may be out of luck and may earn no points due to the length of stay, or possibly 2.5 points per dollar spent for the first 180 days. See details pasted from marriott.com below:

As stated above I would get the hotel's points policy in writing either before signing an agreement, or included in the agreement. I do the later when I do meetings/events, otherwise no points.
