I remember we were discussing this topic a few months ago
in this thread when Air Algerie popped up on the SkyTeam page on Wikipedia. There was an article from 2006 in there that I wasnt able to access, but this is what it said:
The State seems ready to subsidize a subsidiary company which could reorganize its network around a hub with Gardaia. For the international activity, "a strategic partner, preferably a large conveyor, would allow us to develop, in particular towards China and Canada", explains Tayeb Benouis, chairman of Air Algeria which does not hide its interest for SkyTeam alliance, even if his company were solicited by Star Alliance (grouping of airline companies carried out by German Lufthansa). And the Minister for Transport Mohamed Chaghlaoui is pleased with the recent air agreement signed with France.
I just dont think Air Algerie is going to be a SkyTeam member anytime soon. Also I am not even sure if I want them in SkyTeam. I know almost nothing about the airline other than the fact that its Algeria. In fact before I saw it popup on Wikipedia I had no idea it even existed.
Instead of focusing on Algeria, lets focus on Australia. We all know how ST coverage is there. On a side note, I am wondering why other ST airlines dont codeshare on KE's ICN-SYD flight? It's something I have often wondered..
