Have you read the AA wiki on challenges? If you don't have any status on AA, and intend to bail out on UA, it will get you on the fast track to status with AA. We do seem to be seeing a lot more UA flyers on the AA forum this year (and after today's USA Today article suspect we'll be seeing more). I'm a former 1K and pretty happy with my move here.
