Transiting with liquids in Canada

I'm flying to the west coast of the US via Montreal-Trudeau (and back via Toronto) and have a question about buying stuff duty free. I know that if you're travelling through London that if you carry liquids you buy in duty free you better have a chance to put them into your checked luggage otherwise you may well lose them in a security check.

Is this the same in Canada? I assume I'll be claiming by bags in Montreal so I do have a chance to offload but it really does depend on how compulsory this is.
