After the big 25 aadvantage shopping promo last year, I now typically buy AA gift cards on giftcertificates.com and then use them for my online bookings. However, I am realizing (given that I am just sitting in europe without luggage for the second day) that using giftcards means I give up all the coverage that I would normally get for buying a ticket using the starwoods or citi platinum credit card. I.e., travel accident insurance, lost luggage insurance, etc. Have others thought about this? Is there a way to get both giftcard miles and credit card insurance (and do the CC companies actually live up to the insurance claim in case you need it)?
