I didn't think so. JTR indeed has non-convertible seats but last time I took JTQ, or was it JTP? (a few weeks back) it had convertible seats.

That's exactly what they do. As long as I get the right a/c I am virtually guaranteed of one of those seats. Unfortunately most of my flights seem to be on the a/c with all economy seats (JNB particularly often)

Having said that when loads are light anyway can get the seats - I've seen plenty of QF NB get lucky.
