We hardly ever check baggage but that is certainly our impression as well. Earlier this year we waited at the carousel no less than 45 minutes from - Bingo! - an evening arrival at the gate. OTOH we flew with some checked baggage into BHM yesterday and that took a heck of a long time as well so I don't have a good standard of comparison. I do know that almost anywhere abroad seems to be quicker when we're checking our rollaboards.
