So Mrs. Mo is stuck in FCO right now after her Friday flight on 967 was canceled. She said it was a total nightmare and that the gate agents would not look for alternative routings for people nor answer any questions. Apparently people were in near rioting mode (on the phone with her at 3:30am this morning I could hear the shouting in the background). There was another segment added for Friday and the Thursday canceled passengers were all booked on that flight. Passengers on Friday's 967 were given the opportunity to board the added segment and sit in any empty E seat they could find. There were apparently 8 seats. They still had not been told their original flight was canceled or even delayed. She heard from people that Thursday's passengers had to wait around for 8 hours before United canceled the flight.
The gate agents refused to answer questions. Eventually the PILOT for Friday's 967 came out to the gate area to explain the situation. Here is what he said; Thursday's 967 was canceled bc of a mechanical problem. The added segment plane had brought in a part but it was the wrong part so the flight was going to be canceled but people will be booked on Saturday's 967.
The other issue is that currently a FCO the baggage workers are on strike so the airport is a mess. I called the 1k desk here and had them help. The agent told me something very strange was happening there as all star alliance carriers had locked out their flights and she could not see any seats for the remainder of the day and sporadic information for flights tomorrow. She told me to have Mrs. beg and plead at the LH counter to get re-routed tomorrow on something other than 967 bc it already was showing up as 4 hours delayed tomorrow!
Mrs. Mo was a good FTer and went from agent to agent at the LH counter until someone helped her get on a flight to FRA and then SFO tomorrow. Nice she was able to keep her F seat the entire trip. What a mess.
