After a 15 year hiatus, I find myself once again spending time on airplanes.

I presently have about 16,500 MQM, and will be able to qualify for silver without too much effort. Are there any tangible benefits that come with it? I have read the terms and conditions; early boarding is attractive, as is access to the preferred seats. Would I ever be able to expect an upgrade?

Finally, once I qualify, would I immediately receive status for the remainder of '07 as well as all of '08, or would I have to wait until year end?
