manneca, but some of your information is wrong; the JR rail pass is good on the bullet train, just not the Nozomi, the fastest version. And the bullet train does not run from Narita airport; you have to take a train to Tokyo station (or Shinagawa) and transfer from there. If the OP is going from Tokyo to Kyoto, the bullet train is really the only option other than the plane and is not that expensive considering the distance; a local, slower train is not an option unless the OP has tons of free time.

I want to experience Nozomi atleast once from Tokyo to Kyoto or way back. Do you have any idea, how much does it cost ? I am getting some funding from my work place to go there and I might be able to get some money.
Please advise the experience on Nozomi Trains.
