What I do recall is that when Citi introduced the online booking option there were people who used it and redeemed more points because they did not understand the difference between the Fixed and Variable Flight options.
mia, thanks for pointing this out to Dolmar. Dolmar, I know you are not a fan of either TYP or WorldPoints but in this respect (no max value on TYP redemptions) Citi is far superior to BOA/WorldPoints. A $400 cap on a ticket is very limiting especially for peak season travel.
