Airlines Raise Discounted Ticket Prices... Again

While the amount is minimal, $10 one-way $20 R/T, this marks the second time in a week that the airlines have raised prices (last week's attempt was aborted and rolled back). I expect prices to continue to rise considerably in the next several months, especially for1 business fares.

From the article in today's online WSJ:

Airlines Make Another Bid
To Boost Discounted Fares

U.S. airlines are trying again to raise discounted airfares by $20 per round trip.

Early Thursday, UAL Corp.'s United Airlines boosted prices on discounted leisure and business travel fares by $10 one-way, or $20 round-trip. The move covered about 9,000 markets, a United spokesman said, but wasn't made across-the-board.

Northwest Airlines selectively matched United's higher prices Thursday. Other airlines are expected to follow suit, perhaps as early as this afternoon.
