To be fair, you don't know the type of medicine. If it were a big supply or had syringes he could have had security issues, hence in the hold luggage.
The fundamental problem still lies with BA.
Well we do know it was diabetic medicine as that was stated and I know enough about that I am afraid. The pens are fine to get through security and in fact so are syringes with a doctors note. 2 days worth is not much to carry at all.
When I travel I empty most crap from my laptop bag into checked luuage apart from things I need like glasses, medicine and my laptop charger. Everything else can be got hold of if needed and wont kill me to lose for a few days although I might smell a bit.
