Not much could be done about product being in the bag, but for the dinner, if the person has travel insurance, that would pay up for luggage delay surely, at least mine did; I had a wedding in the US to go to last weekend but my luggage was 3 days delayed ; my insurance policy has a $500 delayed baggage allowance. Might be worth checking if he can claim anything
