Well, there is always a risk of missing a connection, but assuming you are taking flight at 930 from SMF, get in 1117 and then DL leaves for JFK at 1240, I think you should be ok. On morning flights like that your chances of arriving on-time are pretty good. If you can wait in board room or other airline's lounge, might be worth taking earlier flight tho.
