The load for SYD-CHC on 9th June (sat long weekend) was like 60% in Y and <10% in J. I spotted lots of empty seas in Y. I doubt there was any F travellers. The load for CHC-SYD return was like 75% in Y, and I think entire J-cabin behind Door 2 was empty (well, they must have rerouted to other carier)

I share your thoughts. But I think Emirates acted rather professionally in this one. Pilot kept us informed, drinks were provided (and the meal). They opened back door for fresh air which I don't think is norm. Glad it's winter evening, imagine it being in HK in summer!!! The pilot kept us informed, and best of all the ICE entertainment kept most passenger happy (or not).

The trick with re-booking is you must dash to check-in areas. I had these type of experience in past, and I knew I had to literally RUN to the check-in counters for my hotel voucher (I know people were congregating at ticketing counter, which is wrong place to be). I was 3rd in line to get my hotel, and was in bed by 10:45pm. So it wasn't too bad.

I think last flight from CHC to ZQN leaves at 4pm for Air Newzealand. Emirates has no responsibility to rebook you or accomodate you on other career (unless you booked in 1 ticket). Matter of fact, Emirates was unwilling to protect us, so I went to Air NZ lounge, explained the situation, and asked notes to be put on AIr NZ PNR so IF missed my connection, they would automatically rebook us on 4pm flight instead of 2:40pm. They were happy to do so.

But it's not the issue of $$$. You really spoil your holiday if you miss a night in ZQN. I bought a travel insurance at airport terminal in SYD on the day of departure using internet terminal, because I KNEW the flight was delayed. I suggest you also pick up generous travel insurance for this.

ok it was too long of a post...
