Being a very impatient New York I have timed how long it took to unload a USAir 737 and USAir 320 (sitting in the next to last row for both flights). Both times it took less than ten minutes. This is one time when time seems to crawl when it really does not.
If you are connecting, and your inbound flight is late, those 10 minutes could seem like forever... and could make the difference between making and missing your connection.
I guess it may be too much to ask for people to try to stand out of the aisle when getting stuff from the overhead.
