Thankfully, no more. That brief situation of charging 10k has been reversed. It is, at present, only 5k UAMiles + $20 in combined taxes and fees to purchase an award ticket r/t i/i on AQ or WP, any flight, any time, any airport in the State serviced by AQ or WP. How do I know this for fact? I purchased 8 today! Yup, 8 r/t i/i award tix cost 40k UAMiles + $160. And, according to cblaisd, it is possible to petition UA to refund the ticketing fees as UA flight credit vouchers, on the grounds that UA should not be charging the telephone booking surcharge for tickets that their website cannot process!
