I think the "harmonics" post was a joke.

My favorite answer is the one that said flaps are retracted to prevent the plane from suddenly becoming airborne due to wind gusts. Imagine being in the jetway, only a few steps from boarding your flight, when the plane suddenly jumps into the air due to a wind gust.
