If you think about it, the basic Gold (even Platinum) pax gets so little from the airline, a few 'reserved' seats is a small thing that once in a blue moon makes us feel special.

Just to be clear: In querying the reason for the premium seats, I am not questioning why they exist - I fully support such reserved seating. Rather, I am asking why the reseved seats are the particular ones that they are, i.e. not-so-good, or no obvious advantages. If they are going to reserve seats for elites, then why not the best ones?
