Here is part of the rules from post number 10 in this thread:
BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES AND NEW ZEALAND FOR C- TYPE FARES THE FARE COMPONENT
MUST INCLUDE TRAVEL VIA EACH TRANSPACIFIC SECTOR ON ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING
ANY UA FLIGHT OPERATED BY UA.

I don't mean to be chicken little and the sky is not falling down but I do hope you are flying soon. Maybe someone smarter then I am on rules for this fare can determine that it HAS to be UA metal . You are positive it is NZ from AKL to USa and not UA metal with a NZ code share number. I know that does not make sense if UA is telling you it is NZ
I've actually gotten a stopover in SYD on my return from AKL so I am happy. I am sure others would want to pursue this new wrinkle in the fare.
