Instead, if it looks like they need to talk to the Rate Desk, I simply nicely have my pager go off loudly, so I can excuse myself politely and advise that I'll call back. Then, thank the CSR for taking the time and making the effort for 'offering' to contact the Rate Desk on my behalf. Then, always calling them by name, thanking them in general.
When you want to hang up, a suggestion given in another thread by a fellow FTer was to hang up mid sentence while YOU are speaking. They wouldn't imagine that you hung up on yourself!
