On a flight back from Cancun last month, everyone underwent a bag search at the gate (u.s - bound flights only). In addition, they were making people take off shoes (not required at the initial security screening) and doing the wand thing too. Not sure if this is the new procedure, or a one time thing, or what. I'll be back through there shortly, so I'll guess I'll soon find out.
