Lets face it NYC s not cheap but also far from most expensive city to visit.
I did read cordelli's post; thanks for making sure. You have a point about the school holidays but outside of that, the city is not flooded with tourists during what are the colder months. It isn't like NYC gets THAT cold. Friends of ours came to the city at the end of January for a few days and paid under $150 for the Waldorf. Their room was large too. ^
