BWI Is My Home Airport--I Go to N. California Once a Month

The pickings are relatively slim for non-stop flights to the west coast.

Of the "legacy" airlines, United has one non-stop to SFO early in the morning and the turn-around leaves SFO around 2:30 p.m. and gets back here around 10:30 p.m. I think they also have one or two non-stops to LAX. Similarly, US Airways has a couple of non-stops to both SFO and LAX.

Southwest has non-stops to LAX and to OAK (they discontinued a non-stop to SJC).

I am a degenerate Delta flyer--they have a non-stop to SLC after 5:00 p.m (this month it is leaving here at 5:17 p.m.) that has a wealth of connections to most airports on the Pacific coast and the intermountain west, including connections to places like Edmonton and Calgary. The usual in-flight time on this flight is 4:15, give or take a few minutes, and the flight, at least in F, is quite nice. I'm batting 100% on upgrades on this flight. In a real touch of irony, the best airport lounge bar in the US is the Delta Crown Room in the Salt Lake airport (usually 6 bottled microbrews and 2 draft microbrews, Guinness stout in a bottle, along with the usual collection of wine and spirits).

Northwest has a good bit of service to Washington, Montana and the Dakotas via MSP (they go to places like Regina and Saskatoon)--they just got done moving their gates back to where they were at the left end of Pier C, across from Delta).

BWI also has 3-4 daily flights to Toronto via Air Canada Jazz, from where you could connect to places in western Canada.
