Flying on RR, volunteered and then...
Flying OAK-MDW-MHT on a RR yesterday, I volunteered for this offer: "We need three volunteers to take the next flight to MDW. In return, we're offering the full value of your ticket plus $100." I said I was flying on a RR, and I would volunteer if they could get me to MHT. The GA called someone. She said she could get me to MHT, and I believed she said the maximum ticket value they could offer was $200, plus the $100.
When the other two volunteers and I met the GA at the CS counter to do the paperwork, they were given the value of their tickets plus $100. The GA gave me a voucher for $200. I was surprised (but nice) and repeated what I thought was the original offer. She said that that (total $200) was what she had told me first, and that there was still time to go back and ask for another volunteer if I had a problem. I accepted the $200, and left it at that. I figured I came out $200 ahead, but was scratching my head. Today I see that I was charged the RR for the trip.
Does this jibe with others' experience, and/or what the experts think is policy? In particular: Was the $200 reasonable? Is $100 the maximum value they can give for a RR? (The other volunteers got ~$250 for their tickets plus the $100.) Is it normal to charge the RR? If not, do I have any recourse now? I know that passing was not smart if this wasn't normal, that I should have repeated back the original deal when it was offered, and that I tacitly accepted the deal. But things were rushed, the original flight was about to leave, there was the likelihood they could find another volunteer, and I wasn't certain about what she meant by "$200" when she first said it. I haven't VDBed for WN on a RR before, and don't see anything in this vein when I search here.
Thank you!
