ORD outbound is fine. IAD inbound can lead to horrendous delays as you wait an hour or more for your bags to show up in the immigration hall, depending on the time of day. I've used routings via LAX and SFO (normally SFO) when the price has been the same (it sometimes is, but not always, and you do get a lot more miles that way).
