Your flight instructor/check airman would be proud of you for not working that after-landing checklist while still on the runway, because indeed, on many aircraft, the flap handle is located right next to the landing gear handle. So much is happening in the cockpit during the landing rollout, you really don't want to be blindly pulling handles in a hurry. There is also some truth to the notion that taxiing around with your flaps down means hijack. Not to mention it's just sloppy airmanship, and sloppiness leads to disaster in the airline biz.
