Then, for those nationals for which a country requires a passport, you're required to have a passport to get into those countries.

Are you looking for a list of countries in the Americas that generally require a passport from US citizens (but may or may not require a passport of other nationals entering a particular country in the Americas) entering into the countries on a scheduled commercial passenger flight?

Travel without passport does not equate with travel "sans documents". Often enough even those countries not requiring all foreign nationals to have passports to enter do still require, at least on paper (in the form of law or regulation), some other documents for purposes of entry.
