To clarify the above thread, I believe the post references the ETA (electronic travel authority) for tourist visits of up to 3 months which may also be applied for through their website for AUS$20 here: http://www.eta.immi.gov.au/

This is different than a true Australian tourist visa which costs AUS$70 and you may need if you have "criminal convictions." as outlined on the ETA website: http://www.eta.immi.gov.au/ETAAus5En.html and here: http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/tour...bligations.htm
