I actually got gate-screened on 3 segments of a 4-segment round trip. This was several years ago, travelling DCA-DTW-SEA. I was headed out West to )of all things) take a motorcycle safety class with the highway patrol and because I did not trust the airlines to get my important stuff to me, I carried all my motorcycle gear on with me. Helmet, textile pants and jacket with thick kevlar inserts, boots, gloves all strategically packed-- I had gotten the dimensions of the overhead bins and packed so my helmet would definitely fit. Of course the security agents had no idea what to make of someone flying with a bag-full of kevlar, so the process took a long, long time. And of course I was the last one to board each of those planes, making bag-stowage a nightmare. I wasn't SSSS'ed at least not on the ticket, so I'm still not sure why I got this on 75% of my flights for that trip.
