To close this out, I logged into the website and changed my account to my French address and it all worked fine. I then clicked onto the main account page and sure enough, it said only 400 points to re-qualify for silver.

I guess I could have tried that on my own without bothering you all, but at least this thread is here for others. Plus hearing from you all before I did it gave me the confidence that I was making the right move.
