Per the plethora of Z availability mentioned earlier, isn't this possible today? I suspect this is not prevalent because many people who pay for BE either a) do not buy it with their money, b) do not buy a refundable fare, c) don't have infinite miles or PMUs, or d) don't have the time to bother if they can afford it in the first place. ...but the people at Delta would have data on that.
Delta could have a bunch of stupid business people working for them, but their track record of coming out of bankruptcy while successfully fending off a hostile takeover suggests otherwise.
Hmm, they did end up in bankruptcy in the first place.
