Realistically though, what kind of gadget would work? Some kind of Tarzan rope-swing apparatus? How do other airlines handle this same problem?

It seems to me you can't get out of the window seat in the old 763 cabin either, if the aisle seat is reclined. They either hafta un-recline, or get up entirely from their seat. Bulkhead is an exception: you -can- get out of the bulkhead window seat no matter what, and that's why I often choose that seat.
