FYI we have ATM cards in Canada and in the US. Prior to a recent trip to Australia I spoke to our Canadian credit union (in B.C.) and they told me, after researching it, that there was a $3 fee (Canadian of course) for each withdrawal in Australia. However, it's buried in the transaction and not itemized.

FWIW we chose to use our Canadian credit union ATM card because it offers a higher withdrawal limit than our U.S. big bank does, and the big bank charges $5 U.S. for each withdrawal.
