So, I think I've narrowed it down to two choices:
1) National Express Bus from Heathrow to Cambridge. Depending on the bus I get, it takes anywhere from 2:20 to 2:50.
2) Tube to Kings Cross and then train to Cambridge. According to Journey Planner this would take about 2 hours. However, it also has me arriving (by tube) at Kings Cross at the same moment that I am supposed to be leaving Kings Cross by train. Somehow, I don't think so.
The tube/train combination appears to be a bit cheaper (I'll get a Young Person's Railcard, so a discounted train ticket), but cost isn't a huge issue since work is paying for it anyway - though I do like to keep costs down if I can. I find trains more comfortable than buses, but there are no transfers if I take the bus.
I'd probably leave Heathrow at around 11am - so Off Peak travel, if that makes a difference.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Or a third option I haven't thought of?
Oh and I don't think that the Railcard will be cost effective just for the Cambridge trip, but I will likely be taking the train at 1 or 2 more times this trip plus I am back (also for work) in September and will need to get up to York.
Since your traveling after the morning rush I would think the bus would be easiest since you dont have to worry about any tube/rail connections. As far as the poster traveling at 5pm i'm not sure which option is best since your are going to have some sort of difficulty (either traffic or packed tube) no matter which way you slice it!
